Is following a specific time more effective?

How i’ve been doing IF for the past two weeks is just following my body. I don’t specifically stick to 16:8 or whatever. Some days I fast for 24 hours and eat for the next 4 hours and then fast for the next 16 hours and so on like that. Some days I just do 14hrs fasting and have one meal and start fasting again for as long as my body allows me. My question is, is it more effective to for example stick to 16:8 (or anything else) and do it everyday at the same time everyday? I’ve lost 3kg after starting IF with a low carb diet and exercise 3-4 days a week.

Answer

Consistency is usually fairly key in maintaining a routine and building a habit, but if what works for you is the variety then keep at it I guess? Like what’s most effective is what’s sustainable for you. But I would ensure you’re fasting a minimum of 16h a day for weight loss and to keep yourself disciplined. My fasts range from 16-26h based on when I start/stop eating exactly, but they’re always at least 16h (well 18h, now I changed to 18:6) and are framed around a 2pm-8pm core eating window. 3kg is good going! congrats.
