Is it better to add veggies?

If someone is at a restaurant and is ordering a steak with a side of potatoes, is it better to add a side salad (mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, balsamic vinaigrette) to have a well rounded meal, or to save the calories and not eat the salad at all. Similarly, is it better for you to add lettuce and a slice of tomato to a burger to be “healthy” or to not add the calories? Edit: for clarity, the steak and potatoes or burger will be eaten entirely, and no additional food or drinks will be had regardless of the decision to add veggies. In general terms - is eating additional healthy food better than not having any additional calories?

Answer

The idea of adding vegies to a main course is to have a more rounded meal or healthier per se - feels almost like downing antibiotic with tea and honey.

The challenge is to reduce unhealthy food - processed food - and eat more healthily by including at least 50% portion of fruits and vegies in every meal.

Good luck and take care - stay healthy always

Answer

more calories doesn’t necessarily mean less healthy. it’d be better to eat 500 calories of a nutrient dense, balanced meal than 400 calories of candy. vegetables will give you some of the vitamins and micronutrients you won’t get from the meat and potatoes. your body needs those, too.

Okkkkk so it all depends…The vegetables you described are very low in calories and wouldn’t make much of a difference if you ate them or not. However depending on which dressing you use, that is where a large portion of your calories are coming from (I’m not talking about the steak or potatoes here because they aren’t optional)

If your trying to lose weight, lowering your calorie intake is the way to go.

However, by eating the salad, you are going to feel full and are less likely to eat anything else so you could be saving yourself some snacks or whatever.

Hope this helps :)

You should look up glucose goddess on Instagram. She does tons of experiments with a glucose monitor eating things on their own, adding veggies/ fiber, and rearranging the order in which you eat those things. Very interesting.
