Is it really this simple?

Is it really as simple as eating nothing, and then supplementing the three major electrolytes (Na, K, Mg) in adequate amounts? I’m 5’10, weighing about 165. Wanting to lose 15 lbs to reach pre-pandemic weight. I also want to do this for other health reasons, as I’ve heard it can be good for the immune system and lowering inflammation (hoping it helps allergies and asthma). So, just no eating and having the adequate electrolytes? I have tried up to a 24 hour fast before and some intermittent fasting. Everything beyond that is uncharted waters for me. What is the next milestone you’d recommend a newbie attempt? 48 hrs?

I was planning on using 2.5 teaspoons of the Morton’s Lite Salt per day (diluted into water) for extended fasting, as I understand my body will be needing more than usual. I have magnesium glycinate, and was planning on taking 200-300mg per day.

Would it be fine to add other minerals such as zinc (~15mg)?

Answer

simple yes, but might not be easy :) especially if you don’t have a lot of accessible body fat.

Yes, I would do 48 first, then maybe try 72. Or you could just stick with 48s.

If you just want weight loss then 48’s and/or 72’s are money. If you want to play with some of the benefits of extended fasting, there might be some value in going longer.

It seems that you have covered what your body needs. But the trickiest opponent is your mind and your vices. This is why fasting can be so life changing for many: it teaches you to control your impulses and put mind over body. Good luck!
