just finished a 60h soft dry fast

Did some fasting last year, water fasts, short dry (12h ramadan style), and after stumbling on this sub decided to try a prolonged dry fast. First day is easy as always, went to bed and woke up after a hard night hot like an oven and dry like Sahara. Had to go to work so workout and quick shower. Lesson 1 - hard dry would really be more effective for autophagy, the skin absorbs water so fast I was afraid it would eat up the soap too. Last night I slept like a baby, but I woke up to what could only be described like a hangover from the depths of hell. Cold af, shaking, body begging for water. I drank some, amazed at how abysmal it tasted, and am now refeeding on kefir and light veggies. Lesson 2 - 36 hours is recommended for a reason. So the question arises - why even do LONG fasts? It seems to me that rolling shorter ones might be better in all regards. Not judging, just really curious.

Answer

I tend to agree with you mostly because I do 24-36 generally because life gets in the way or boredom, rarely is it hunger or thirst.

I think as DF is more of a healing fast then the longer the better for the body to repair itself, new stem cells etc. etc.

Answer

No, hard dry is not more effective for autophagy… go do more research. You are spouting off nonsense and hyperbole. There are clear reasons for doing a 5, 7, or 11 day fast. Most people don’t have the reactions you described.
