Just starting out on my IF journey!

Just starting out on my IF journey. I’m on day 2 of 16:8. I recently visited my endocrinologist (I have pcos) and she prescribed me medication for weight loss. I want to give IF an honest try and pay attention to when I’m hungry vs when I’m bored/emotional eating before resorting to medicine. Honestly, the medicine isn’t even on the table. If anything, it made me want to try even more to do this on my own! I’ve tried counting calories and dieting so many times only to not be disciplined enough and go back to my old ways after a few months. I understand IF is a lifestyle and not just a diet. Any tips on someone just starting out? 34 female 5’9” SW: 206 GW: 160

Answer

drink plenty of water, staying hydrated is key to keep the body functions going throughout the day. I always tell myself if that pee ain’t clear then its time for another cup of water, but hey thats just how I do. When youre in your eating window do consume enough calories to sustain yourself and have enough protein. I use the myfitness.com or app and it helps me track protein, fat and carbohydrate macronutrients. Hope you find your way and stick with it.

First off good job in taking your health into your own hands 👏🏽

I would suggest:Make sure you have your macros figured out before you break your fast. I always start my day with either a workout or a long walk I do fasted ( 7-10k steps) and then get to work before I break my fast at noon. When I break my fast I know that I’ll have at least 30 grams of protein (I try for 50) in my first meal.

Examples of my first meals are Overnight oats; (6grams protein), peanut butter powder (10 grams protein), hemp seeds (10 grams protein), almond milk (2 grams protein) tbsp maple syrup and spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom) , plus a berry usually blueberries Plus harboiled egg (6grams)

A big Salad; mixed greens, avo, whatever veggies I have, plus something special like artichoke hearts and olives, a cheese like feta of chopped Swiss and turkey plus hemp seeds = 30+ grams

I’m sharing this with you because you’ll find yourself more satiated if your meals are nutrient dense specifically protein packed. Youll be less likely to be hungry during your fasting window if your really packing in the nutrition.

If you combine it with just walking every day I’m sure you’ll drop weight and your hormones will balance out!

You got this 💪🏽
