loose skin worries

Hey all!! Been lurking here for a bit and your stories and pictures inspire me. I've been doing 16/8 for about a month, changed my eating habits, yoga every morning and have lost 5lbs and clothes definitely are looser. Loving it ❤ Buuuuuuut.........I'm worried about what is going to happen to my boobs, inner thigh and belly pooch if I continue to lose weigh. Will the saggy skin look even worst when it's just skin? I don't even know if I'm explaining myself correctly. Is there any way to prevent that?

Answer

The skin stretches when the weight is gained. It becomes noticeable when the weight is lost. Some of it tightens up over time. This is why people think losing quickly makes it worse. It doesn’t. Losing slowly simply gives the skin time to catch up.

Some people have reported that extended fasting helps with loose skin, but these are really long fasts.

Personally I’ve never understood people’s worry over the loose skin. A bit of loose skin is preferable to excess fat. Fat is not inert. It causes all kinds of metabolic issues.

No one can say what your final outcome will be. It varies widely from person to person. The best thing you can do is to fuel your body with the nutrients it needs to perform tasks as optimally as possible. Hydrate, eat fresh whole food, get proper sleep and move your body.

Answer

I don’t have any loose skin. Do longer fasts. At least 36 hour fasts, but try to get to 3-5 day fasts. Also, start exercising. I recommend weight lifting to grow muscle over cardio only type exercising. Some of it will come down to your genetics and age, but extended fasting to lose the weight will help minimize loose skin.

Answer

This is all age dependent and without knowing your age, it’s impossible to answer.

Me, I’ve lost a total of 170lbs in two separate dieting periods from age 40-45 (not through IF, I tried IF and found it wasn’t sustainable long term and if anything, long term it’s quite dangerous) and I have a lot of loose skin all over my body.

The loose skin doesn’t tone up, go away or get better with age, the skin just loses its elasticity and nothing will change that except an expensive surgical operation to remove it altogether, leaving you with graphic scars. I know someone that’s had it.

If you’re in your twenties then you’re in luck, there’s a very good chance you can recover and it won’t look as bad.

But mid to late thirties onwards and forget it, you’re stuck with it.

Answer

don’t let that deter you. It is a sign of success and hard work and don’t let anyone tell you it’s not. Don’t be worried about it. CELEBRATE it! If it causes medical issues such as rash/ skin infection- you can further address it but for now, wear it proudly!
