Methods of encouragement / partner up?

I've been fasting on and off for years, how often I go into "I'm going to start fasting again" varies. Usually short ones, 24 hours or so, day on day off, once or twice a week, etc. About a year+ ago got two injuries and still cant get back to my usual workout routine. Went from -- 5ft 7in, 170lbs, olympic lifting, power lifting, and running 20+ miles every week (1 half marathon, with multiple short runs) like it was nothing -- to I can't lift w/o pain, and I cant run to the extent I once did nor can I enjoy running or working out like I once did. (Pain still present btw) It kind of got me out of that healthy fit lifestyle mindset and took me down a steep landslide. Decided perhaps the health benefits from fasting may help with recovery, while also shedding the 20+ pounds I've put on. For now the whole workout thing will have to be put on standby. In the mean time I think fixing my diet and shredding this body fat, plus detoxing from the shit food I've eaten in the past, will help me a great amount. Trying to get into slightly more extensive fasts, maybe 72-96 hour fasts during the week days. As for the QUESTION part: What do you guys do other than read inspirational stories, watch videos of knowledge or read about benefits from fasting? I'm thinking of perhaps finding someone else who also wants to do 72/96 hour fasts at a time would probably be a good idea for both encouragement and keeping each other on track through updates and dissuading each other from those urges. Anyone else try this? Was it a success or helpful at all?

Answer

I do 96-hour fasts Sunday eve after dinner to Thursday eve dinner. At the pace I’m going I’ll probably be doing them for another 8 weeks before switching to a much more mellow IF fasting, more likely just skipping breakfast.

One of the best books to improve your mental game is Ironmind: Stronger Minds, Stronger Bodies. With your background in power lifting you would like the angle they take.

Also pick up a copy of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business. It will help you a lot in breaking down the habits that interfere with your fasting.
