How many other extended fasts have you done?Great job on your progress, but make sure you are maintaining your iron levels and do not hesitate to visit a doctor even as a “just in case”.
How long does your typical period last? A month seems too long to me. I would either suggest breaking your fast and eating normally (and healthily) for a week or two. See how you feel for your February period recovery. Then plan to start again right after (if you want). OR visit your doctor.
Fasting is all well and good, but don’t feel like you’ve failed if you need to stop. After more repetition & recovery, you’ll understand yourself better and what the implications of this are for you. Especially if you aren’t used to doing such long fasts with any sort of frequency.
Disclaimer: am male, so I cannot give you guarantees and only generic advice. Hopefully a female can chime in with some insight on their experiences. You might have better luck asking in r/fasting, honestly. Maybe /r/FastingScience even.
I had some uncharacteristically long/heavy periods triggered by multi-day fasting in the past. what I read at the time was that your fat cells can contain hormones and other junk that are released back into your body when you burn the stored fat for energy (I may be paraphrasing but that’s the general idea). have you had any sudden changes in fasting frequency or duration? I would suggest getting out of ketosis for a while and see if that helps. you may just need to take it slow while your body adapts. in my case I didn’t have any lasting issues - my cycle stabilized once I ate normally and scaled back the fasts a bit. my ob/gyn wasn’t too worried about it either - she suggested going on the pill to regulate my hormones, but that wasn’t necessary in the end. hopefully it’s nothing serious for you either!
Hormones are stored in fat and when you fast and fall in to deep levels of ketosis you breakdown fat as fuel this cuases duping of fluids salts ect but also hormons, sadly this is just a side effect of rapid weight loss
I’ve had delayed periods but not prolonged. I would talk to your doc. But would love an update if you do. Female bodies are actually more complicated than men and we must act accordingly. Our evolutionary survival is quite interesting compared to men but that means we have to things differently. Good luck and hope you get answers!
You really need to schedule an appointment with your obgyn asap. I’ve heard of extended (think months and months) of malnutrition STOPPING menstruation, but fasting shouldn’t prolong it.
There is something else going on. I have spotting between my periods and sometimes it can be fairly heavy spotting at the midpoint, but if this is full on continuous bleeding please please get it checked out.
