Thought I’d share my stats and notes from my journey thus far (which I just collected from some scattered scribblings and text messages I’d sent) also which include some fluctuations, in case someone can benefit from seeing them. I’m not sure what caused the fluctuations, whether water weight, or maybe some carbs I ate when I had just broken my fast (Raisin Bran Crunch, white rice with mushroom soup) or what.
A little background: I started trying to do Keto around 4/13/2018, and at that time weighed 143. I wasn’t very good at Keto because I am too impatient to count macros, and I was using the diet as an excuse to continue bingeing on carbs (sweets). But I did manage to drop 4 pounds over 7 or 8 days, likely all just from stopping (for the most part) my massive daily sugar binges (for ex: eating 3 or 4 giant Butterfinger candy bars every day, eating a bag of Dove chocolate caramels, or peanut butter cups each day, you get the idea).
So on 4/22 I started water fasting, broke the fast with mostly Keto-only foods for 2 days, and then restarted the water fast. Here are the dates, numbers, and notes:
4/13 Keto 143 lbs
through
4/21 Keto 139 lbs (total 4 lbs lost)
4/22 Fast 138 (salt and water only)
through
4/24 Broke Fast (dizzy, light-headed, sick) but didn’t weigh myself
4/25 Keto OMAD 134 lbs (additional 5 lbs lost)
through
4/26 Keto OMAD 134 lbs blood pressure 117/49 (Low)
4/27 Fast 137 lbs (started using NuSalt and blood pressure now 116/76, much better!)
through
4/28 Fast 135 lbs
Total cumulative change in weight attributable to either Keto or Fasting, or some combination thereof: 8 lbs
First lesson learned: I’ve been straight water fasting for 2 days and feel completely normal, no significant hunger pains. I think this may be from the NuSalt, which I’ve only been taking for 2 days but I’m interested to see if it makes me feel better during Days 3 and 4, which last time were so bad I had to stop.
Answer
wow this is amazing… but also a lot to take on! I don’t know if I would have had the strength to start fasting that early on into keto. :)
some side effects you may be experiencing might also be the process of becoming fat adapted in general (which can take up to even a month or two), and may or may not be purely fasting related. So, keep that in mind. You sound like one tough cookie. :)
