New to fasting

Firstly hello and thanks for taking the time to read this. I am in my first month of fasting from roughly 8pm-12pm cycle and so far so good. My lunch is usually noodles of some kind or porridge. And dinner chilli, curry or something like that. Now when fasting I've heard different stories about eating or not eating potatoes because of the carbs. What's everyone's thoughts on this I usually have a baked potato not chips and it's done in the air fryer. My final treat before fast starts is usually a teaspoon of chocolate Spread. Anyone got any advice on keeping going or what goes well for them?

Answer

It really depends on your IF goal - weight loss, maintenance, health issues etc.

You don’t seem to be doing a no-carb or low-carb diet so I think it’s no harm. Plus, baked + air fry seems harmless, and let’s not forget that there are actual nutrients in a potato compared to let’s say white rice or plain white bread.

Now, regarding that chocolate spread. I’ve been adviced by long-term fasters that it’s not encouraged to have a sugar rush (especially processed sugar) right before fasting. I love dark, bitter chocolate so that’s usually my go-to. But but, it’s all about what is working for you.

As to potatoes, I eat them from time to time:

It didn’t stop my weight loss.

It’s good if you can eat them cold and with vinegar, preferably with ACV (potato salad?). I haven’t tried that yet.
