Newcomer here. Decided to fast for Lent

(Not the full 40 odd days mind you) Figured I'd go all traditional, having finished carnevale, originally for eating a lot before fasting or sacrificing so far as I understand it. Never really done anything like this prior, though I think I could manage it. Immediate plans are to stem hunger with water, and perhaps gum or the like. Looking at fasting for 4 consecutive days each week, with smaller meals to break my fast at the end of every week (Saturday.) Starting with a half day today, then two full days before the first break. Planned it so I'll mostly be at work during those days, which keeps me occupied, but there's lots of snacks there. Also I usually have a semi-extended family meal once a week which may be problematic. Thinking of only restricting for solids, and still having my after-work pint though... I'll have to try and not over do that though. Decided on this, and chose only 4/7 days as I thought it would be easier to accomplish for a first fast. Always wanted to do a solidarity fast for my friends during Ramadan, so I'm excited to try for Lent! What do you lads think? Any tips/comments or thoughts? Wish me luck! I expect familial & social resistance :P

Answer

I would recommend starting intermittent fasting now, and then work your way to one meal a day(omad) and use things like coffee or tea without anything in it, just straight. If you want try a 48 hr fast, and get used to taking the electrolyte mix(pink salt, cream of tartar, apple cider vinegar) I use La Croix “soda” but it mixes well. The biggest top I would say is to practice fasting first. I’ve only done a couple of 72 hr fasts and usually do keto Omar daily but I’m trying a 7 day water fast starting tomorrow.
