Eat more… simple foods. You can’t really go wrong with plain ass meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, and produce. Generally, just stick to foods that have only been processed to the extent that makes them edible.
You’re not HANGRY the moment you feel the first little stomach growl.
I think we should be more comfortable being a bit hungry before your next meal . For so long I was literally never hungry because you just plan your day around food and your just always eating. I learned you don’t really need to eat nearly as much as you think you do.There always exceptions of course.
I struggle with eating too much in the evenings because I go to the gym after work, but I totally get it and should pay more attention and get back to what I was previously experimenting with…
I used to make gains in the gym, not really eating much at all after my workouts and just adding the calories to my breakfast the next morning. I fell out of that pattern after a move, but this post has sparked my curiosity again
Right now - getting plenty of plenty of fiber and complex carbs has been number 1 for me. Everything gets better when I pay attention to that
Aim to make plants the star of the show in every meal
Each meal is a chance to get the most nutrition possible and you can have fun with that!
And restricting only leads to over eating later
These were the main 3 nuggets of nutrition I learned in the past year that have helped me to improve my cholesterol and iron levels, decrease my PMS symptoms, improve my digestion, lose some weight and maintain a comfortable weight, and overcome my lifelong disordered eating patterns (I’m 26 and I went on my first diet at age 8)
“ Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” was invented by the marketing firm for a cereal company, it actually has no nutritional significance. It was so freeing to realize that I don’t have to eat breakfast
Macronutrient distribution, and by extension most diet culture trends, is mostly overrated.
What matters is food quality and type. You’ll probably max out most of the health benefits of good nutrition by following basic dietary guidelines.
For nerds like us, something like the Greger’s Dozen app is ideal. Pretty much covers everything we need in proportionate amounts.
Caloric minimum < caloric intake = gain weightIntake < caloric minimum = lose weight
It’s dynamic but your body requires a minimum level of caloric intake. You are what and how you eat because no matter what your body is going to get those calories. Garbage in garbage out, vice versa
Eat the foods you love in moderation. Don’t try to go all out on “healthy foods” as they do not exist. Healthy is a lifestyle and nutrition should be a part of it, food is meant to be enjoyed. If you try to hard to be “healthy” you will always feel like something is missing. Learn to balance your meals and your plate to your lifestyle and activity level.
