Not formally diagnosed because my blood glucose is inside of my current doctor's reference ranges. I have tricare through the Navy so I have little control over my doctor choices. Had my A1C checked in November and at it was 5.6.
Last year it was in the pre-diabetic range (6.0). Fasting glucose was 104 this year and 108 last year. Last year's doc (on an Air Force base) said, "lets check this again next year." and did the diet and exercise review with me. This year the doc said nothing, just that everything looked good. I looked at my results. Yes, my A1C was lower (I made a conscious effort to cut out candy), but my fasted blood glucose was still in the diabetic range. Family history (mom is type 2 and has been for years) indicates I'm well on my way and its time for a change.
So I bought an at home meter just because I was curious. Sure enough, my morning 9-12 hour glucose was 110 today. Hmmm..
I've been doing 16:8 or 18:6 for three weeks now. I'm 38 years old, male, 262 pounds when I started 16:8/18:6 3 weeks ago. This week the scale was down to 250 (I weigh myself late morning usually). The goal is 225 (I'm 6'4" and a weightlifter. 225 is a good target weight for the first round here). I'll check in again ever week to let you know how its going.
Today I start OMAD and shift to a keto diet the right way. I'm buying Dr. Fung's books and going to start listening to them this week, even though I don't need any more convincing. I'm a software engineer so I don't move a lot during the day, though I do spend most of it standing these days. Two years ago I did 16:8 and counting calories to wonderful effect and dropped to 240. I experimented with a 36 hour fast and loved it. Then COVID happened, and I'm a public health employee, so I've been REALLY busy and just stopped making diet a priority.
Anyway. Love to you all. I'll keep checking in and see you on the other side. Hopefully this turns into a testimonial.
