One Week+

So, I'm on the beginning of day 6 of a fast. My goal was at least one week, but potentially as long as a month depending on how I'm feeling. So far all is well, I got a sudden burst of energy last night and feel great this morning; is that my body switching to using ketones? I've done Keto in the past for long periods and this state feels similar. I've also experienced minimal hunger pains the last few days, more just emotional urges when those around me are eating or the subject of food comes up. Really looking forward to a nice steak right now, but not because I'm hungry. Here's what I'm taking during my fast, note that it's not completely a zero carb fast. I calculate it at around 80 calories per day. I feel it's low enough to be effective, but would like some feedback here. Do you think I'm seeing all the benefits of a long water/electrolyte fast on 80 cal per day? "Snake Juice" sipped throughout day - this is the worst part as it tastes gross 2 Liters Water 4 TBS Apple Cider Vinegar (0 cal?) 2 TBS Lemon Juice (0 cal?) 2 tspn Ginger 1 tspn Salt 1/2 tspn Lite Salt 1/2 tspn NoSalt 6 squirts Mio Daily Vitamins/Supplements include: Multi, Omega-3 Fish Oil (30 cal), C, D, Zinc, Magnesium Citrate (200mg), Creatine. I take 1 scoop of psyllium husk powder 2 x daily. Label says 25 cal per scoop. I did this on pure hope that it would keep things running regular since it's mostly fiber and make the refeed easier. Questions, comments, thoughts, advice on any of this? Should I cut out the PH powder and Fish Oil?

Answer

That burst of energy is great, isn’t it? After another week or so it’ll start to fade. You are a seasoned faster!

IMO, that’s a reasonably clean fast. I guess I’d be cautious about the carbs in the PHP, but if you do get kicked out of ketosis, you’ll know it when your energy level crashes. I’ve never used it during my fasts (on day 12) but usually to finish them out. I just up my salt intake every few days to flush things through.
