So I posted yesterday, but thank you for letting me post again and be annoying 😂
My husband by some miracle decided to start IF and reducing his carb intake with me. After years of asking him to just give it a try and do some research into it. Anyways he cut out eating grains, which he relied heavily on because as a Type 1 Diabetic it was drilled into him that he had to eat carbs every meal. He is not doing keto with me, but he is staying in a range of 30-50 carbs max a day. He sticks to a 16:8 IF interval.
Since starting with me on January 1st, he is down 11 pounds (water weight and inflammation I’m sure), but the coolest thing that’s happened… he has had steady blood sugar levels and hasn’t had to take as much insulin. He’s reduced his units from 40 to 20. He is on a pump and a monitor 24/7 so it’s been really cool to see his body’s needs change before our eyes. My husband is someone who would daily have severe high blood sugars and then would have severe lows and crash at night.
Last night his blood sugar started to go low (70) and before he had to reach for a juice box his blood sugar went back to normal from what we ate at dinner and he stayed stable the rest of the night.
We have struggled with his blood sugars being up and down for so long that it’s crazy to see them so stable. The last time he had stability like this was 9 years ago when he worked out 7 days a week and ate the same meal every day.

I love seeing people discuss T1D on this sub! My husband has it as well and has been loosely doing 16:8 with me for a couple weeks unless his blood sugar goes low during the fasting period. He’s a pretty healthy guy but he does struggle with high highs and low lows almost daily. He just got on a new pump system that takes a lot of the human error out of the equation, so hoping for more stability and an easier time fasting!
