Question for nutritionists about lead in Metamucil

Hey guys, there was a study that came out 1-2 years ago about an alarmingly high amount of lead in Metamucil (in my own personal opinion), I'll make the question super quick. Since Metamucil is a fiber supplement, and fiber doesn't get digested, it just passes through the body (as I understand it) And since the lead within Metamucil comes from the growing phase of the plant Psyllium, rather than being added loosely afterwards. (Meaning the lead is probably suspended within the fiber) Would the lead still be absorbed into the body via the digestive tract, or would the fiber mostly insulate the lead from being digested? ~~~ Note* Don't take anything I said here as claims of the truth, I'm not an expert in nutrition, nor growing plants, I'm just a concerned metamucil customer with a question.

Answer

Get your fiber from veggies like cruciferous ones or beans ideally. The gas and bloating goes away, use bean-o if you like. Way better for your gut.

Psyllium husk or methylcelluluse (think Metamucil still uses dextrin) if not.

Answer

Anything growing out of the ground is liable to have heavy metals in it, including some of the healthiest foods like leafy greens, which are among the best sources of fiber. But you would have to consume an extraordinary amount to reach the upper limit for lead intake. Herbs and spices are another source of heavy metals because of the fact that they’re concentrated dried plants.
