Question on water fasting and pcod

I have done a 28 day water fasting on August. Before the fast I happened to take a pelvic scan, which came out clean. After the fast, I haven’t got my period. As a matter of fact it got delayed to over 20 days. I was given Duphaston to induce the periods. Upon doctor’s suggestion I have taken another pelvic scan. But this time, a simple cyst was detected and the report said that I had PCOD. I am freaking out. Water fast may not be a reason but I have heard that waterfast can actually reverse PCOD and here am I with PCOD after the fast. I want to get back to fasting but this corelation is pulling me back. The doctor has put me on contraceptives to regulate the periods. Can I safely fast when am on pill? Any information/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

A) Fasting usually stops periods. Your body stops unnecessary functions for survival like procreation.

B) In theory it helps with PCOD, and should not cause it. You are prone to it and that’s a problem you’ll be addressing. Physicians tend to throw you on a hormonal birth control and hope it works. I’m sorry you have to suffer with it, I’ve had partners with it and genuinely have empathy.

C) You don’t have to just trust me, but I used to be a nurse and am a fasting nerd. The anecdotal evidence and scientific evidence is out there for what I’m saying.

D) I’m not sure why you were concerned you stopped getting your period. It doesn’t hurt anything, it is O K. Extreme athletes tend to stop getting them as well, due to the “stress” on their bodies. All kinds of reasons the body adapts.

Best of luck.
