I believe this to be one of the best benefits of dry fasting. The intense emotional detox and processing and letting go of buried trauma that holds us back is inevitable if you fast long enough. If you stick it out and feel the dark traumas that are coming to the surface you naturally process it and release it so it will no longer be buried in your subconscious and be subtly affecting your mood, relationships and perception of the world on a day to day basis.
The Purging of these traumas and intense buried emotions can manifest in different ways. Crying, uncontrollable shaking, anxiety, fever like sweating, vivid dreams/nightmares, anxiety, sadness and other ways.
Liberation from darkness stored within us is found not by running away, numbing or distracting ourselves from the darkness but instead facing it head on and going through it to get to the light at the other end
