Shout out to the fasting failures

** To those of you who refine, refocus and get back at it after a failure: I'm in absolute awe of you.** You set a fasting goal but give up on it for one reason or another. But then you take the time to examine what went wrong. With this new knowledge you refine your approach. Then you fast again. And you rinse and repeat the failure/examination/reapproach cycle if necessary. That mental strength you have to keep getting back up is incredible and you are as much an inspiration to me as those who have already met their goals. So thank you!

Every fast, even the ones I’ve had to finish early, has proved useful in some way. The fasts I’ve done this year haven’t lasted anywhere near as long as I’ve wanted to, simply because I’ve been getting so cold and we’re not turning the heating on so much so it’s not really been tolerable. But still, my body doesn’t want carbs anymore. When I break a fast, all I want is protein. I’ve lost about 3kg since the beginning of the year but the renewed focus and the food craving reset have been so amazing that I don’t mind all the “failed” fasts.

Thank you! Especially women have cycle and pregnancy hormones that can contribute to eating/binge eating. Getting back to your fasting routine resolves a lot of this but it’s challenging at times. Sticking with it takes you where you want to go. I have way too much anxiety and depression if I don’t fast. My body can’t handle the hormonal fluctuations and swings. Even though I failed so many times during the week of pms/cycle now I feel better at 3 days into my fast. Whatever the reason no one should be discouraged just keep trying until you are able to get there! Thank you for this post!

Your post outlines, in my opinion, exactly how fasting should be approached. It’s a skill we build and become talented at. Add in that every body is different and there is no “one size fits all” approach and it’s basically a must if a person plans to make it part of their life

I think a lot of people on the sub could do a lot better in their journey if they understood that this is the way\~

Answer

Very much this.

It takes a while to get good at something, and I’m better at fasting now than I was when I started (most progress yet on this latest attempt).

For me, I think the final missing piece was the awareness that the “suffering” that I experience during fasting is all for nothing if I can’t keep it up.

I’m trying so hard now to not disrespect the work that I put into this so far, and that seems to be the trick with me.

Finally, my narcissism is useful for something.
