Fun thread! And fasting misconceptions are just as prevalent among the intelligent and educated as they are the common rabble. My wife is in Mensa and she let it slip to her M friends onetime years ago that I was fasting. (I used to fast Mon - Wed during the rugby season to accelerate healing and stay lean, which worked well for me.) Well, not only were they shocked that I could be so stupid, but actually had their doctors calling me days after to tell me I was doing irreparable damage to my heart and brain. In fact, one confided in me that had I lived in her state, she would’ve had the police pick me up for a mandatory 48 hour psych evaluation! (BTW, that lady is now well over 200 lbs. and walks with a walker in her early-50s!)

BTW, none of these geniuses were in very good shape and some of them were actually quite obese. In fact, and I’ll have to confirm this with the wife, but I’m pretty sure some of them have passed on now, though they were about the same age. I just turned 52.

So fast covertly, my fasting Friends! The last thing you need to deal with, when in the throes of fasting, is ignorance. Cheers and good luck with your 2022 fasting goals!

Tbh I’m finding A LOT of people judge people who fast the same way as crossfitters or vegans.

If someone asks what I’m having for lunch and I say I’m fasting, straight away their eyes glaze over as if I’m bragging or trying to save the world 🤷‍♂️

Meh. At one point society believed that getting wet was a vector for disease so they would not bathe. Ever. Tomatoes were poisonous. Heck you could cure just about anything with a tobacco enema or just blowing smoke up there, the source of the expression as it was found out to be worthless.

Hmm maybe you’re too young? Some people still advise to eat tiny mouthfuls every 20 mins to diet and keep metabolism going. Like low fat caby stuff. Rice cakes and such

It’s not true BTW looking at actual study data. The organ eating thing used to scare me but it doesn’t seem to be true either. Atleast in people with allot of woeght to lose. It does sound like a dumb thing for the body to do tbf

I’ve heard “oh your body digests protein when fasting, and little fat”

And “if you work out and gain weight, its muscles. Not the fact that working out makes you more snacky”

That last one may be true for some of you but i don’t build muscle that quickly
