Soon-to-be mom help

Hello! Any recent moms with advice with fasting post-partum? In the past, fasting is the only way I have successfully lost weight. Not eating at all is the simplest way I can prevent myself from overeating every day. I’ve obviously gained weight during my pregnancy and hope to start working it off a few weeks after I give birth. My goal is to breast feed for at least 6 months if my body allows me, which means I have to be eating to produce milk for the baby. I’m afraid I won’t be able to lose the baby weight without being able to fast. Anyone with experience or words of wisdom?

Answer

Breast feeding burns a lot of calories. My advice, buy a stroller or baby wrap and go to the mall and walk. (It’s winter where I am but if weather permits definitely go outside for walks.) I am a book lover so I bought audible and listen to that while I’m walking. If your schedule permits I’d go early in the morning that’s the best time. I did that during and after my second pregnancy and the weight melted off. You’ll need proper nutrition for the first year after baby is born so fasting isn’t really ideal at this time.

Answer

Yeah, I would say to eat your daily calories in healthy food in an IF window.

There’s an old wive’s saying “one tooth for every kid” - because, if you don’t get the nutrition you need, the baby takes it from you.

So, I say, first goal - get all the nutrition you need. Then weight loss.

Congratulations on your new baby!!

I can say women in my family have a lot of issues with milk production and fasting. We fast in my family for religious reason and I had a cousin who was unable to fast due to milk production.

Be safe, do what your body tells you to do! 🥰

Answer

Everyone is different and obviously talk to your doctor but fasting for me actually increased my milk supply. I didn’t do extended fasts but I had more milk when I fasted. But I wasn’t exclusively breastfeeding. If you are, it makes you SO hungry
