Starting first thing tomorrow!

M / 212lbs / 5'11" I'm excited to start my first day of water fasting tomorrow! My goal is to go 5 days but I would be happy with at least 3 but hoping I feel well enough to go on. I haven't done any sort of fast so I am a bit excited and nervous all at the same time. Especially since this weekend is my cousins grad party so there will be plenty of great food and drinks. Today I only ate a little to sort of get my body ready (~1,000 calories). Anything important I should keep in mind? Wish me luck! :)

Answer

Maybe wait until after the party? Fasting sucks for the social life and being in situations of good people and good food and drink is very daunting and unnecessary for the mental fortitude. For sure you can do it and you’ll be glad you did, however some social events like grad parties or other once in a lifetime type of events are better participated. I try to do my fast over a period where I know nothing special is going on. That way I don’t have to miss out on it all. But with that said, you got this dude. Good luck and stick with it my man!!

Answer

I’m on my second extended 7 day fast and what I’ve learned is it’s easier to follow if you use unflavored tea, or something to break the water boredom. I actually have a small cup of bone broth each day and weight loss is same. So if you feel like giving up bone broth is a life saver.

Answer

Fasting is good to do!

You might want to try this:

A) Fast from now until 8 hours before the grad party.

B) Get enough salt. You’ll feel better and be safer.

C) 8 hours before the grad party, break your fast.

D) Be reasonably near a toilet, in case a huge urgent poop happens. So, don’t go for an epic hike in the forest.

E) /u/fillupamerica is right. Go and enjoy the grad party (and the food).

F) Do a recovery period. One day of normal eating for every day of fasting you’ve completed.

G) Then you can start another longer fast.

For anyone who wants to do fasts of 24 hours or more, and especially of 72 hours or more, medical monitoring is a good idea. A blood pressure check (ask a pharmacist). Plus a set of lab tests at least once every three months. (The fasting glucose test should preferably be done 10-12 hours after a meal, but not more.)
