Staying consistent

Hi everyone, a little background of me I used to practice fasting very regularly a few years ago, lots of IF and prolonged fasts here and there, longest I had done was 5 days, it was very easy for me to fast and abstain from food, I’ve been itching to incorporate elements of fasting back into my life as I have stopped and haven’t fasted in a year or two. I’ve noticed every time I go to start a fast I end up caving in and eating or I’ll forget that I’m fasting and go to mindlessly eat something, I used to be so diligent with this and now it just seems impossible. Has anyone experienced this? Or maybe have some insight into how I can get back to the level I was at?

Answer

A very common problem is that we tend to think of this as riding a bicycle, when it is much more close to running.

If you spend a long time without running, you won’t come back by attempting a 10k. You also will need to keep an eye on injuries and discomforts, and will probably need to rest to let it heal (rather than push through because of your limit used to be).

So I would recommend getting back to it as if it were your first time. Do a few 16hs, increase it to OMAD, then try 36, and so on.
