Probably a very common question. But how do I stick to my diet when living with family and they want me to eat with them? Especially breakfast?
I like very strong Intermittent Fasting to lose the weight. I do 20:4, or One Meal A Day. Fast most of the day, and then eat at 7 PM: one glorious feast of 1800-2000 calories. It’s so satisfying and amazing.
I simply don’t have the willpower nor desire to break my calories up and eat smaller meals throughout the day. Ever since I found out about IF, that 5-6 small meals a day is dead. But while I’m living with my family, they’re always asking why I can’t eat with them, or offering me breakfast, or lunch before I want to break my fast, or whatever(even alcoholic drinks sometimes) during my fasting window. It’s a little bit awkward sipping a Diet Coke at the dinner table while everyone else is eating breakfast, dinner, or what have you. (Plus the food they cook usually doesn’t fit my macros anyways.)
I have to hit my fat loss goals this month, and OMAD(One Meal A Day) is the only way that I know of to do that. So how do you make this lifestyle work while living with family? I may just have to push through it and sip the Diet Coke while everyone else eats lol. But if that’s what I have to do to hit my goals, I will do it!
Answer
If they can’t understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, that’s their problem. Families/mums/nans/partners will always want to try and feed you, you know? They’re not doing anything wrong, neither are you, just politely decline the food.
Answer
You can either be honest and say you’re abstaining purposefully, or you can just placate them with something not quite true.
In the case of the latter, For breakfast, say you aren’t hungry yet. For lunch, Just say you already ate, or say you have plans to eat something/somewhere else right after.
Unless you’re around them 24/7, it shouldn’t be too hard to avoid 2 out of 3 meals.
Answer
Do you drink black coffee as part of your fasting routine? I just get coffee and tell people my stomach doesn’t handle breakfast well. Then I can hang with them and drink a few cups of coffee. That is only advice for breakfast though.
