So my wife's family is kind of famous for getting hangry (and hangry headaches). If lunch isn't EXACTLY when it's supposed to be, tempers start to rise. If dinner gets pushed back by 30 minutes, the forehead veins start throbbing with barely suppressed rage. My wife has definitely inherited this! The only time I've seen her downright nasty was on a roadtrip when we got stuck in a traffic jam for 4 hours. Whew!
I do pretty regular 24-36 intermittent fasting. It's helped my weight and eating habits a lot. My wife has noticed, and wants to try it out, but she can't even go like...3 hours without food. I've kind of been discouraging because I don't think I can deal with the mood swings!
I've read on here about blood sugar, ghrelin, etc. She is pre-diabetic and eats a lot of carby snacks.
Has anyone been able to overcome regular, day-to-day hangries with fasting? Any permanent change in behavior or dependecy on food?
Answer
If she just ate something non-carby for her snacks that might help. Hangry is a sugars/carbs addiction thing. Speaking from my own experience, atleast. Maybe she could move to veggies and dip for a while. Then slowly push her meals closer together. I think fasting has to be a mind over emotions thing. If she not ready for it then it will be futile.
