Hello! I am a 23(M) my current weight is 220lb and my height is 5’11. I’ve recently have been desiring to lose some weight and I think the most effective way for me would be to fast! So I just had a few questions and yea I have been doing research but I always like to make sure!
1. Can I just go straight into fasting? Should I prepare or does it actually matter?
2. Electrolyte supplementation
Can I just drink something like LMNT/Liquid IV and be fine? Will the 10 extra calories in a packet affect the fast?
3. How long can I do this for and still be healthy ultimately I would like to get down to 180ish “eventually”.
4. How long should I continue to eat light after the fast?
Answer
- Depends on the person. My first prolonged fast began with eating an extra large pepperoni pizza and lasted 46 days. Others like to eat keto beforehand so their body is already in ketosis when they begin the fast. It helps with the “keto flu” stages in the first few days of the fast.
- I find it’s easier to just make my own electrolyte mix using the Snake Juice recipe. All the packets seem to have the wrong ratios for some reason, as far as I could tell.
- I would caution against prolonged fasting once you’re below 20% body fat. Studies show that protein catabolism increases dramatically once you get below 10% body fat.
- I plan on using this refeeding guide when I’m done with my prolonged fast in about a month. Or something similar. Will probably use bone broth and vegetable smoothies instead of fruit juice at the beginning though. I don’t like the idea of spiking my blood sugar with fruit juice after such a long fast as I’m doing.
Answer
Start with omad. Eat protein heavy meals every day (my go to is chicken wraps) and when you’re ready you can incorporate rolling 48s.
If you go straight into fasting and are not ready for the rollercoaster that happens when you shut down your hormones/digestive system and then start them up again (like me) it is not a great experience in hindsight.
Slow and steady wins the race
