Wanting to fast for weightloss

Hey Redditors, I have been researching fasting casually for a few months now, and I am considering it. I'm a 28yo male who weighs 297 lbs. I have a job that requires me to sit in an office chair 8 hours a day, but I've been exercising regularly every week with a PPL weightlifting routine and cardio. I weighed over 340lbs about 1.5 years ago, but I have fluctuated in this time due to struggling with my calories where I thought I was eating in a deficit, but wasn't or having diet burnout. Any advice or suggestions from you on prepping, coping techniques, side effects to be aware of, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

You sound like a perfect candidate for fasting. Welcome to the community. I’d recommend starting with low-carb and intermittent fasting, This is changing the hormones in your body to use fat instead of storing it. Once you’ve worked out your bodies’ hormones, you can start longer fasting periods. You don’t need to go crazy. Eat healthy, continue exercising, fast, and watch the weight fall off.

It’s all about your mind state, not eating is not the answer to lose weight. You need a good relationship with food because you need it. Before fasting focus on low calories diet, good sleep and hydration. Then you’re ready to fast but keep in mind that you have to burn calories not avoid to eat them. I would suggest a 24 Horus fast, then after some days a 48 and so on. Just to be prepared to the changes in your body. And, oh, never trust a fart while fasting. Never ever.

Answer

Fasting will be far easier for you if you are already eating a keto diet. I suggest you start with that, if you are not already eating keto. If you stick with it, your cravings will disappear, and you will feel much better physically.

Just a week or two to get used to keto, and then start your fasting at a reasonable level, like a 16:8 or an 18:6. You can do this. I have faith in you.

Answer

Start small, change to low carb , then keto, 16:8, 20:4, omad and longer fasts after that ( don’t forget to take electrolytes) i was fasting up to 20 days two years ago, it’s doable as long as you keep yourself busy.. after few days , i’m no longer hungry but boredom will be your biggest challenge.

Answer

Id recommend not fasting for weightloss. It’s a great tool, sure. but it can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. If your diet and exercise, and sleep are on point. Sure fast, and it’ll definitely help. But I wouldn’t recommend pulling this lever until other levers have first been pulled and optimized.

Answer

Go keto first for a week or two, so that you are already fat adapted. If you haven’t fasted before, try a few dinner to dinner fasts first. Remember, the first two days are the worst from a hunger standpoint. Don’t be afraid to try things out, since not everyone is that same. Maybe one meal a day works better for you, or maybe you do better with extended fasting.
