I used MFP for a long time, but they keep seem to be making it worse and worse. I really like the interface of LoseIt!, but it’s mostly for losing weight, not so much for when it’s bulking season.
Answer
I use Carb Genius (for iOS). And there are a few reasons why:
- it’s decently fast
- it has fully customizable main screen
- it has curated food entries (no tens of the same food with different macros)
- you can add your own food straight away or send it over to ‘admin’ for approval and adding it to the food catalog
- it has food analyze feature (if you need it)
- it’s relatively cheap (I paid roughly £35 for a yearly subscription, AFAICR)
- no ads at all (even in free version)
These are the reasons I can remember right now, but there are surely some more of them.

Since myfitnesspal started to ask money for barcode scanner, I swapt into FatSecret. It has most of myfitnesspal premium features, also shows full macronutrient without any limitations. And has similar or better database than MFP related to foods. Foods are also easy to add and takes only few mins. First weeks was though, but I get used to it and I’m not looking back at MFP anytime soon.
