What should I start with?

I (27f) have made a lot of healthy changes in my life recently and I want to start taking IF seriously. I went through a depression period of binge drinking, drugs, smoking etc.. the point is is that it has left me with a “belly” that I loath. 😣 I’ve done some research about my weight gain and it seems like it’s a stress/alcohol belly. I am 10 days sober now and have been eating healthier, etc. but I can’t decide what type of IF I should be doing. I started last night with a 16:8 fast, and successfully completed it, but I was STARVING the whole time. I drank lots of water, tea, a little black coffee, and had a pinch of salt during the fast. So the question is, what fast should I be doing to start? Any tips on making it easier? Does it just get easier as time progresses? Also, any other general tips for a first-timer, and someone trying to lose weight?

Answer

Start with 16:8. The hunger pains will eventually abate and you’ll be fine. When you feel ready you can try 18:6 or 20:4 if you want but you don’t have to. 16:8 is fine. Remember your journey is gonna be long so take it one step at a time! You got this!

Answer

16:8 is a good starting point, but there is an adjustment period. I personally found it easy to skip dinner, I found it an easy stopping point.

Headaches and hunger ARE going to happen. I’ve been doing 16:8 a short time and it’s a lot easier after the first 4-5 days. Headaches ease, hormones even out and stops a lot of the hunger feelings. Hunger is easier to bear when i do notice.

Water and electrolytes help, which you’re already doing. It’ll get better.
