My doc prescribed it to me, so i asked my aunt, uncle, and family friend who all take it how they like it, and the consensus was: “It made me shit water and you get about a three minute warning.” For them, that never went away. I decided against taking it LOL
I take metformin and have for 3yr. I wouldn’t look at it as a dietary aid. It helps with insulin sensitivity so if you’re insulin resistant it will help. Otherwise, probably not worth taking. It has improved my a1c significantly. I have not noticed significant weight change from taking it.
One of my family members with T2 diabetes was prescribed metformin. He was only mildly overweight with a gut, but not obese.
He didn’t change the way he ate and lost around 10 lbs with metformin. He gut shrank, but eventually, it stopped working for him.
His blood sugar still remained relatively high throughout the time on metformin.
But after he started fasting 18-20 hours a day, he started dropping weight again and his blood sugar actually dropped to prediabetic levels, which is pretty impressive.
