Where do I best educate myself?

Hey guys, I’m slowly coming to realise the importance of good health and nutrition and I think it is one of those subjects everyone should be educated in but very few actually are. I therefore wanted to know if you could maybe give me some starting point, a book maybe or something else where you started to learn about nutrition. Thanks a lot

Answer

maybe take some nutrition classes at college? i don’t know how old you are but there’s usually always nutrition classes. learning how to do proper research is a good step for nutrition education. proper research as in systematic reviews and meta analysis research. don’t fall for the tiktok videos that’ll be “im a nutrition coach and this is what i wouldn’t eat” NOW, there are dietitians that do that to trick people online and then they just state “because im allergic to this food”. NO good nutrition professional will tell you to subtract or not eat this food in your everyday diet, remember that.

Answer

Dietitian.com is a good resource to start with and ask questions. If you want to understand more about specific nutrients, the Linus Pauling Institute for Micronutrient Research at Oregon State University is a good source.

Answer

Lots of good and bad folks on the social media - if you want to find a good influencer then look at their credentials - a registered dietician credential (RD) is worth a lot - someone with a BS, MS, or PhD in nutrition is usually a good resource.

Anyone can call themselves a “nutritionist” so that title is worthless. MDs and DOs are not required to take any nutrition classes so take the advice from those folks with those credentials with a grain of salt - especially if they claim to be “the carnivore MD” or something along those lines.

Answer

On IG follow syattfitness, everycaloriecounts, yoursetfitness, muscleforlifefitness, gregnuckols, drkarlnadolsky, dr.joeymunoz, dr_idz, dr.adrian.chavez, biolayne, maybe carnivoremd2.0. It’s hard to decipher charlatans from the real deal unless you’re already very knowledge about nutrition. Also just because someone looks the part does not mean they know a damn thing. Don’t be fooled by those guys also. I’m not aware of any books, I learned most from experience but, I’m sure there are tons of books on Amazon to give you a good start. Don’t fall for fads.

Answer

There are multiple human nutrition textbooks on Amazon that are affordable used.

Steer clear of the pic-on-the-cover-food-guru books. They can push unconventional advice.

It doesn’t have to be biochem and tracking apps.
