Which has been better for you, and why: 16/8 or 18/6?

I used to do 5:2 and it worked wonderfully for me, until it couldn't accomodate my caloric needs and I ended up eating more than 500 calories on fast days. I started again recently, the first few weeks were fine, but this last week I've just been starving. This is likely because I'm moving a lot more etc. So, I've decided to try a more traditional IF. My first thought was 16/8, but I also see other breakdowns... so I thought I'd ask what you feel is best for you and why. \* Power to all the OMAD folk out there, but that won't work for me. Maybe one day, but not right now. [View Poll](https://www.reddit.com/poll/111q3j8)

I just do whatever feels good that day. Usually weekends I do 16:8, during the week I do anything from 18:6-22:2. But I will throw in a 16:8 during the week if my schedule is off, I’m not feeling well, extra hungry etc. I’d rather be flexible with the exact hours then fall off the wagon completely for that day.

17 / 7 works for me. In the mornings I keep super busy with my dogs, to avoid thinking about foods. I drink water and black coffee until 10 a.m., then I will make a fruit dish, and maybe a sausage patty, sometimes with cheese on multi grain toast. Then dinner by 4:30 p.m., finished by 5:00 p.m. I usually try to brush and floss my teeth right after eating so I won’t eat anything else.

I mostly do 20/4, but chose the 18/6 option as that will happen, too. I’d do OMAD, but I don’t like to just jump into a big meal. I prefer to snack a bit or have a small meal a few hours before my big meal.

Answer

I do 20:4. I eat a small meal at 4:30pm, a larger main meal at 6:30pm and a small meal at 8:30pm. I have a problem with stopping eating once my eating window opens so keeping my window small is key. Also, eating every couple hours during my window means there’s not enough time in between for me to get hungry and start snacking so I easily stick to my 3 meals only.
