This morning at 8:00 A.M. I was already 53 hours into a water fast and 24 hours into a **dry** fast (no drinking whatsoever, water or anything else.). IOW, the two types of fasts overlapped. I felt OK so I did 32 minutes of rebounding. I still felt OK so I did weights, push-ups, and pull-ups, the best that I have done in a long time, 30 push-ups instead of 25, 3 pull-ups instead of 2 (the most I have done since I was much younger.), etc I was still OK, so I took my canine companion for a walk. I tried running but I gotta tell you that I was just too fatigued (not from weights but from fasting) so I just walked her. So-called fatigue did not stop me from doing fast twitch muscle kinds of exercises like weights or sprints, but the fatigue of fasting was just too much to contemplate running 1.2 miles.
Doing these fasts would have been impossible **for me** if I also did not do a [keto](/r/keto) and [cold showers](/r/coldshowers). Keto keeps most of the waves of hunger away, although I did get whacked last night with a few waves of hunger. Cold showers gives me the will-power to do wet and dry fasts and a lot of other things, like not flip out when my wife is flipping out. She thinks I am a tower of strength now thanks to the *hormetic* practice of cold showers.
Then I slept for 4 hours this afternoon. I was very glad to be unconscious for 4 hours rather than have to sit around watching TV and experiencing the thirst and hunger of dry fasting.
So tonight I did 5 sets of my [Sprint for Life](https://www.reddit.com/r/HIIT/comments/7z1suk/the_sprintforyourlife_hiit_exercise/) **HIIT** exercise (I got gilded for this submission believe it or not.). Again, the sprint type of exercises during a dry fast are no problem, which is fascinating. Then I got into the shower, did my normal washing, and then did 5 minutes of cold water (46 degrees F), a short period of hot, and then another 5 minutes of the cold.
Yeah, I'm thirsty. Yeah, I am looking forward to tomorrow at 8:00 A.M. when I can start drinking water again. But this truthful report should convince anyone that **the hysteria surrounding dry fasting is 99% unwarranted**. Did I mention that I am **72** years old? 95% of everyone younger than me can do this also. Dehydration is just another hormetic challenge that if recovered from will make you stronger. And recovering from it is quite easy; just drink more water. Our ancient ancestors had many occasions when they had and did recover from dehydration; otherwise they wouldn't be our ancient ancestors. IOW, it is paleo to do the hormetic challenge of temporary dehydration and then re-hydration. Study it before doing it. I do not recommend people be dehydrated chronically any more than I would recommend someone not eat ever again or stand in a cold shower all day long or run 16 hours a day, day after day. (Actually, human beings are so adapted to running the running 16 hours a day for days on end is actually possible. But I would not recommend it.) Also, I recommend against eating food without being hydrated. It'll constipate that crap out of you, or rather it will constipate the crap inside of you to stay inside of you. (:->)

Whoever reported this…I get where you’re coming from, as there are inherent risks to dry fasting. But remember, we’re going days without food here, which counts as risky to a layperson. I’ve tried out dry fasting for myself, and found it pleasant. The other fasting sub has an issue with it. We don’t.
Just stay away from carbs.
