It tough to have a kid under one year old, so give yourself some grace. This is only a chapter in your story. It will be over all too soon. But, also, there are more interesting things to do than eating.
I get it completely! I am a cannabis enthusiast so I get the munchies at night. What I do is have a “sweet” beverage like Zevia Rootbeer(zero calorie and sweetened with Stevia) and a salty one like pickle juice and I alternate sips. It gives me that cookies and chips feeling without the food. Flake salt to crunch on works too. I find if I’m craving sweets my body actually wants sodium and water. Hope that helps!
If you aren’t on any drugs that deal with serotonin, look into 5-HTP supplements. I take 200 mg an hour before each my two meals and while it doesn’t suppress appetite, it helps with feeling satiated.
Make sure you look into drug interactions cause it can cause serious interactions with other drugs. And DO NOT take more than 400mg/day.
You don’t need to be on them indefinitely and you should go off of them every month to see how you feel and begin supplementing if you still feel you need it.
Having a baby and not good sleep is hard. Very hard. If you make poor choices difficult to make, like putting all junk food out of the house, that might help. When you’re sleep deprived, it’s harder to make good decisions. Make it so that you have to go to the store to get unhealthy foods. Don’t buy them. It’s much less tempting to eat fresh veggies and uncooked meats. I applaud you for being able to fast with a baby. (You’re not breastfeeding are you?) Remember to take breaks and nap when you can. Sometimes it’s okay to leave for a few minutes if the baby is safely in their crib. Also, listen to Intermittent Fasting Stories podcasts. Read Delay Don’t Deny, and Fast, Feast, Repeat. Have some patience with yourself. It gets gradually easier with kids.
It’s a season, as they say. Try to cut yourself some slack, sleep deprivation and stress are hard to deal with, without beating yourself up about a few extra lbs, your baby isn’t even a year old. It will get better. Just do what you can for now and slowly ease into the diet. Small steps in the right direction will get you where you are going.
