As I understand it there are two main reasons to do extended fasts.
The first is weight loss. Speaking for myself I have an easier time not eating at all than eating a calorie deficit for an extended period of time. After about a day the hunger fades and it becomes easier.
The second reason is autophagy. There’s a lot that’s been said about this in various sources and I’m no expert but the short of it is that after about 36 hours growth hormones increase and autophagy starts which recycles damaged cells and creates new ones which can reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases.

In your case it’s entirely possible that fasting could alleviate your symptoms a bit.
But I’m just some guy on reddit; I suggest you go read up a bit on this from more reputable sources.
I’m working my way up to extended fasting. So far I’ve only done the 5 day FMD a few times. I want to do water only. I’m doing it to see if I can knock out some autoimmune things. I did a 24hr and saw a noticeable improvement but it came back with a vengeance once I started eating again. With the 5 day FMD it took a couple of weeks to get bad again so I’m hoping if I go longer it will help my body get it under control.
I weigh 110lbs so I’m not doing this for weight loss at all.
I’m pretty lean but have a bit of fat to burn if not muscle on an extended fast. I started doing a 72 water only fast once a year after I had some bad gut issues.
If you are fasting for random health issues, sure try a couple day fast it won’t hurt. Just slowly eat more calories the week before and the week after so you shouldn’t lose weight.
