Why is IF viewed so negatively by other people?

Whenever I mention to someone that I'm doing IF they either think that I'm starving myself or that its unhealthy. Are we really programmed, as human beings, to consume a lot of food on a daily basis in order to survive? I've been practicing IF since November and it made my life so much better. I just don't understand the hate behind it.

Answer

Tell them they fast every time they go to bed, they’re not dead. You just happen to go a bit longer and then get your food consumption in, in a shorter timespan. You group it up instead of spread it out over the course of a given day.

Challenge someone to a set amount of macros per day for the course of a few weeks and see whose weight changed most, and for better/worse at the end.

Answer

Sometimes it’s like talking to someone who has started CrossFit. The person doing CrossFit/IF is so excited that they go on and on about it. And sometimes they poo poo any other form of exercise/ eating.

Sometimes it’s because the person has a different relationship with food. Two of the ‘languages of love’ are care (doing something nice for others, like cooking) and spending quality time (like eating a meal together). So the reaction you get may not be about IF per se, but rather because what they are hearing is, “ you can cook and invite me to a meal, but I won’t participate” and that sounds like a rejection of their expression of care. If so, I’d stress that you still want to get together do things, drink coffee while they eat, etc

Answer

My starting weight was 238 lbs. I’m now 184 lbs been doing this since October. I have a completely different relationship with food.

What I never understood before IF was WHY do we have to eat breakfast when we don’t really feel hungry and the thought of lunch was nice sometimes… but then days I didn’t really want to eat.

Lucky for me my family have been fully supportive.I don’t count calories, I eat when I want to within my window and I stop when full. I’m no longer addicted to soda or chips or snacking. I have fallen in love with sparkling water….. life is good. Until they come to you or go on about their issues. You should tell them about IF.

Answer

Before I did IF, I only heard about reducing calories and eating frequently. Also, if you don’t eat, your body goes into survival mode, making it harder to lose weight. Any perceived negativity someone may have had from me was my lack of understanding.
