Went for a checkup this morning. Doctor noticed that I’ve lost weight, and asked what I’ve been doing. I said “Well, I’ve been doing intermittent fasting” — fully prepared to launch into an explanation and defense of IF.
“Oh yes, intermittent fasting is great!” she said. “It’s not just calorie restriction; it also helps your body burn fat by letting your insulin go back to baseline.”
I am *so* relieved that my doctor is IF-aware and supportive! Hopefully more and more doctors will get the memo.
She did remind me that more than 4 grams of protein will break the fast, so I should watch what I put in my coffee. I told her I’ve switched to black coffee anyway (which is true). Having been on this subreddit for a while, it amuses me that the very first note she gave was related to the ever-popular “cream in coffee” debate. :)
(I did not ask what she thinks about diet soda, because I don’t drink it very often anyway. I might ask next time, just out of curiosity — though I suspect doctors probably debate that just as much as this subreddit does!)

I’m stoked for you! My doctor is one of those who memorizes what to say to those with an above normal BMI.
“Your BMI is rather high, I suggest diet and exercise if you care about your longevity and health”
