I’ve been struggling with my weight set point for the better part of a decade, but always had trouble because of impulsivity and anxiety.
Fasting was my savior, allowing me to maintain my weight over the past few years, relying on 16:8 and OMAD to keep my intake even. I’m short, just under 5’2”, so my BMR is around 1800 (because of my weight).
I’m a very chesty woman, but am ace & agender, so my chest distresses me significantly. It increased several cup sizes after having children, so I am hoping fasting can help me reduce them to a more reasonable D or even C (can’t even dream smaller than that because of genetics). The last time I was C was in 7th grade, and D was the summer before freshman year, despite being otherwise very small, so I’m shooting for a weight even lower than my high school weight of 115. Due to my height, the standard BMI table is inaccurate. It has me at 41.2 now but it’s closer to 43.5 with the BBMI (Better Body Mass Index), and 97lbs is at the low end of normal with BBMI.
After finally solving my impulsivity and anxiety by getting medication for ADHD, my appetite and love of all things food drastically fell. Since this is allowing me to drop my weight set point by fasting, I’ve already dropped 30lbs (13.6kg) for the year, from my highest of 260 down to 220. I’ve been eating at most 500 cals a day since I can’t eat more without getting physically ill.
Throughout the time since Thanksgiving this year (when my appetite dropped), I’ve worried that consuming such a small quantity would end up worse for my health than straight fasting, even though it’s been OMAD. I’ve decided to do an extended fast until I get that reported feeling in the back of your throat that it’s time to end the fast, or I have physical issues like nausea/dizziness.
I’ve been drinking electrolytes since Nov since leg cramping started right away, which I’ve continued doing for the extended fast. The ADHD meds make me dehydrated so I need to drink 2l+ a day, which also strips electrolytes faster, so I’ve paid extra attention to those deficiency symptoms and made sure to drink up as needed.
I’m at day 3 out of ???, will try to remember to post again later about how it’s going.
I’m 24 h into a 3 day fast. I’m fasting for weight management and to reset after a sugary holiday season. I’m feeling kind of hungry right now and drinking tea. In a way, this hunger feels kind of nice.
Reporting for my 5 days fast and day one is done. I’m actually at over 28 hours of fasting and actually feeling great! I can’t wait to check progress in the morning. As of today I was 135.2lbs in the AM.
I unfortunately can’t sleep though. I always lose sleep while fasting and refuse to take any sleep aids.
