For those with insight and/or experience with longer fasts, I have a question about weight loss:

Currently, I’m on day 24 of a 40 day, strict, water-only fast (with snake juice ofc). As of today, I have lost 20.2 lbs, and I have been losing on average 1lb daily until this past week during which my weight loss has slowed to .5 or less lbs daily if any.

While I’m still pleased with the effectiveness of this extended fast, I’m concerned/curious on the drop in rate.

For context, this is my 1st time doing a fast of over 2 weeks. I am female and am of generally good health.

Is this slowed weight loss rate normal for a longer fast? Should I expect a whoosh effect during which more weight drop or will weight loss continue to slow? Could it just be water retention or potentially hormone-related?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Day 5/40 “Dirty” Fast (Drinking Tea and Coffee)

Hi All,

I’m trying to make a major lifestyle change and fix my relationship with food. I’ve been overweight almost my entire life. I’ve done intermittent fasting, but would gorge when the fast would end. I’m trying to separate myself from food for a while so when I come back to it I see portions “correctly.” My energy has remained fairly good, no problem with my teaching job, though by 3 or 4 pm I’m pretty beat. I’m just wondering from anyone else whose done an extended fast what were the hardest days?

Answer

Length: 336 h

Current time: 336 hours 25 minutes

Why: health, mental clarity, mindfulness, weight loss

What type: salt, no salt, mg tablets, some fish oil tablets, herbal tea during week 2

Notes: felt good for most of the fast. Some intermittent tiredness. Psychologically, got pretty sick of drinking salt water around the end of week one.

Going forward: time to EAT

Answer

Length: Not sure, aiming for at least 24 hour but might extend depending on how it goes

Why: Weight loss, to reduce inflammation,

Notes: I’m SO grateful to have found this sub! The info and electrolytes in particular is wonderful and so appreciated!

Concerns: I made some concentrated snake juice without magnesium, washed down with a lot of fresh water, but which I still drank too fast and had some mild gastro symptoms, but pretty bad nauseas and intensely feeling very unwell for about an hour after I drank the second half (details below). Would like suggestions on how to make the diluted version more palatable without sucralose (Mio) or caffeine (Crystal Light/Coffee/tea), so I can sip on it throughout the day as recommended.

I did 1/4 tsp each of iodized sea salt and no salt, mixed in about 6 oz of water, then I drank them as 2 big gulps an hour apart, each washed down with lots of fresh water. I did it this way for taste purposes because I don’t do well with sucralose and so didn’t want to use Mio flavoring and sip on it. I also don’t want to sip on plain salty water throughout the day though. Suggestions for making a decent tasting diluted snake juice without caffeine or sucralose welcome!

Sorry if this is confusing, I’m still a little foggy from the nausea!

Not my first fast, but it’s been a while. Longest water fast ( w/ coffee) :15 days Longest intermittent fasting : 1 meal/ every 3 days : 15 days(this was actually harder with all the appetite restarts)

Both types resulted in a 15lb drop. I did them back to back for a 30lb drop and have stayed relatively within the last 15lb range over the past 8 years. My weight fluctuation is 170-185 .I believe it would benefit me and re-set my stomach bacteria.

Gotta say today is proving to be exhausting. I’m not hungry, but I’ve been nauseous and dizzy so I’m taking it slow but going to keep on keeping on. I feel like FAT is the most efficient food your body can consume since it’s already been stored and processed, like having your own shots of red bull made just for you.

Am so disappointed.

Was on day 8 of what initially started as a 3 day fast (my first extended) and felt okay so decided to stop at 10, but was duped into stopping today.

After my morning bike ride I went to a coffee shop and asked for a matcha green tea, and made sure nothing else was added just matcha powder and hot water. After my first sip I knew there was sugar mixed into the powder. I could also soon feel the sugar rush. What a horrible way to break the fast! I had a whole break fast planned out.

Anyway, it was still more than I had initially wanted to do, and I even thought 7 days was a solid stretch goal. Just frustrated with the injection of sugar when I had wanted to keep the ketosis going by breaking fast gently with a LCHF diet.

——— Food discussion below ———

Had some water with chia seeds to wake up the gut (fibre), and having some bone broth now. Will be having a local dish called Bak Ku Teh (literally translated as meat bone soup, effectively pork meats and ribs boiled in peppery soup, delish) for lunch and then hitting the gym to leverage on the high HGH.

Eggs and avocado for post gym meal, garlic butter salmon for dinner.

Going back to 18:6 IF starting tomorrow, and will be trying an extended fast again in a couple of months.

First time fasting and I completed a 7 day fast on august 4. Is a month too soon to start another extended fast? I’m planning to do a 10 day fast this time starting at the beginning of next month, but don’t want to overdo it too quickly if possible. So instead of a 10-day maybe supplement with short fasts. Any thoughts?
