115 of 160. Fasting for health. My cousin had a couple strokes and I’m concerned for myself. I’ve done lots of extended fasts in the past, but am getting more serious now. This fast has been surprisingly easier jumping back into fasting. I watch mukbangs at mealtimes and that helps lol.

Had something I had to do today that was not conducive to fasting, so I’m doing a 12-hour fast from 8 pm to 8am, then starting over. I read that mixing it up like that; 12 hrs, 16 hrs, 18 hrs, 20 hrs. actually works better because you body doesn’t have a chance to go into starvation mode. Still, I’ll try to be 20:4 from now on.

Answer

Starting a 60ish hour fast to help with digestion and to give my system a break. I think dairy and too much fat at night are causing me to wake up in the middle of the night with acid reflux. I need to reset and then change my meal times to earlier in the day

I am currently at 42hrs fasting, was not doing any type fasting prior to this. I had a really stressful day Monday and have lost my appetite ever since. I feel fine and almost more energetic to do things around the house and even went to the gym for a light bike/walk today. I have been drinking water to stay hydrated and just got done reading the “electrolytes 101”, so I plan to pick up those things from the store later. Are there any dangers for me to keep going if I keep up with water and electrolytes?

Day 7 of extended fast.

Sleeping better and generally calmer but not necessarily feeling the energy or focus I would hope for by now. It turns out that parenting small children is an unpredictable stressor. I’m generally fine with preparing meals for them - it doesn’t tempt me and I think actually is helping restore a healthy relationship with food. But they need to be picked up and carried and given attention All The Time. I can’t schedule that into my productive hours.

The plan is to kickstart into ADF for a sustained period of time. I may be close to feeling like there’s few added benefits beyond this first week but 10 days is a nice number too.

Edit: I’ve realized that while I saw big swings in my first few extended fasts, it’s been less so recently. I don’t really get any symptoms going in to ketosis but I also don’t get a surge of endorphins once I’m there. On reflection, extended fasts don’t necessarily play to my strengths any more even though they are simple to manage.

End of Day 3, 74 hours in. Fasting for weight loss and to improve insulin resistance. I had one or two short hunger waves today, but they weren’t bad. Otherwise, I’m not thinking much about eating. Looking at food appeals to me aesthetically, more than usual, but I don’t actually crave it. Energy level is pretty high. I’m fuzzy-headed. It’s a little difficult to concentrate, and I haven’t been very productive today, but I’m not especially tired. The original plan was to do five days, but if I’m still feeling good when the time comes, I may extend it.

For the first time in 8.5 weeks of rolling fasts, I’ve lost weight following an eating day.

Shirts don’t fit well anymore and I’m struggling to find shirts that do. Not trying to buy more because I’ve still got ~ 20 pounds to go, but I’m really not sure what I’m going to wear at the end of this. Gotta bust out that sewing machine at some point.

At 40 hours so far, have to fly to a wedding tomorrow morning. Thinking I’ll break it with some airport miso soup when I land. Closing in on my goal weight of 155!

Feel much better than my first 72 and 48 hour fasts early last month. Not sure if it’s just mental or what.
