12 hours into a 36 hour fast.

Because I love the mental clarity and because at the moment I feel bloated and lethargic and it’s 100% from unnecessary consumption of high calorie foods. I also need to set and meet a personal challenge so I can believe in myself again.

It’s going ok…taking it one minute, one hour at a time. My worry is all the holiday snacks at work. A random moment of intense craving can undo all my work so far and I’m trying to head that off by reading this subreddit and being mindful of every moment.

Answer

⏳ Length of fast: Approximately 6-7 days (technically started on fri after dinner but didn’t start counting until sat morning!)

❓ Why are you fasting?: For weight loss purposes, but I’m also intrigued about autophagy and how it may help with my eczema. I want to curb my addiction/impulse to eat fast food all the time. Also, losing all of this weight is most likely definitely going to help with my asthma and intermittent claudication from walking as well.

📝 Notes:

As I’m typing this I’m about to enter hour 48. I weighed in at 231.2 lbs at the start, now I weigh 224.1 lbs. So that’s 7.1 lbs lost total. A lot of this is definitely water weight as I had a very carb heavy diet beforehand, and ended up going to the bathroom A LOT within the first 24 hours (been suspecting I have IBS for awhile now).

So far it’s going a lot better than the last time I did a 6-7 day fast… which was in 2018. Back then I didn’t supplement with electrolytes, so Day 3 was pretty bad for me… I also feel like back then I was thinking of food CONSTANTLY. One possible reason for why it’s easier this time around is because I have a lot more body fat now. I weighed 231 lbs right before starting my fast, and I had gradually gained weight from 160 to 231 over the course of a year and a half due to life circumstances/depression. When I did my fast in 2018, I started at 170 and went down to 154, then maintained at 160 for months. Now, I have a much more clear mind and am in the headspace to do fasting again. I have a two week vacation, and my roommates are on break, so I’ll be at home by myself all week.

I’m on day 5 of my 10 day fast for weight loss. Electrolytes+zero cal drinks.

Halfway there! I’m trying to stay more active during this fast, so I’m walking more and doing 30 minutes of dance fitness+beginner ab workouts every other day. Feeling good!
